Welcome to Jelly. Jelly is a design blog made up of interviews, essays, and a journal of my work as a designer and artist.
About a year ago, I left my full-time job as a art and science educator and transitioned to being a freelance creative. Part of that transition involved writing for various magazine outlets about the design world, mostly in shortform and more lighthearted pieces (i.e. design round-ups and profiles).
While I’m still writing in that space, I’m also magnetized toward an increasingly expansive, liberated editorial space where I might explore more niche and personal topics within design - I’m defining “design” here as the creation of work to serve a function, but not entirely separate from art.
Additionally and importantly, I begin my 6-week residency here in CDMX come Monday, and I’ve committed (internally and now externally) to being a more disciplined documentarian of my own work, which this blog gives me.
I love the straightforward functionality of the blog - how it uses a digital platform so simply and effectively. Information, in words and pictures, presented linearly. I think it suits me.
Here on Jelly, expect (short) essays on the myriad topics I come upon, interviews with my friends and collaborators, and documentation of my work. I hope it feels like a refreshing alternative to the rest of your feed <3
